How Blackburn HQ came to exist—and why we play business differently.
At heart, I'm an Artist.
I'm a liberal arts kid.
A graduate of The Evergreen State College with the swagger of a business school graduate from Seattle Pacific University.
I have both. I represent both. I work with both.
I believe in creativity and structure. Art and economics. Imagination and execution. Big, beautiful, slightly ridiculous ideas—and the systems that make them real.
And somewhere along the way, I realized something about myself.
I'm an artist.
Business is my medium.
I see businesses the way an artist sees a blank canvas. I see connections, possibilities, and opportunities to create something that doesn't exist yet.
I don't do things differently just to be different.
I do things differently because that's how I believe they should work.
Not because someone else has done it. Not because nobody has tried it. And certainly not because that's the way it's always been done.
I care about what makes sense. What works. What creates value. What makes people's lives better.
And then I figure out how to build it.
I Wasn't Willing to Go Backward.
For more than a decade, I built billion-dollar partner ecosystems in corporate tech.
I was good at it. I understood how to connect people, technology, strategy, and opportunity at scale.
But with every promotion came more pressure, more complexity, and less of the life I actually wanted.
Then the world proved something important.
Work could happen differently.
We worked from home. We built teams, solved problems, and delivered results without organizing our entire lives around an office.
And when return-to-office mandates started spreading, I watched the old world of work try to snap back into place.
I considered every possible way to make it work. Hours of commuting. Hotels. Leaving home in the middle of the night. Rearranging my family's life around an office three hours away.
Every version felt like going backward.
So I walked away.
Not because I didn't love business.
Because I loved what business could be.
And I wasn't willing to stop believing in it.
So I Started Building Forward.
I bought a course.
Had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
And bet on myself anyway.
I experimented with digital products, content creation, creator commerce, affiliate income, automation, and AI.
I made things. Broke things. Learned things. Sold things.
And slowly, the pieces started connecting.
I could see an entirely different way of building income—one where ordinary people could use their creativity, experience, knowledge, and technology to create something of their own.
Without a factory. Without enormous startup capital. Without waiting for somebody to give them permission.
The opportunity was there.
But the path wasn't obvious.
And I couldn't stop thinking about how to make it easier to understand.
Enter Money Octopus™.
I needed a way to make the new world of business make sense.
So I made it a game.
Because apparently that's what happens when you give an artist a business problem.
Money Octopus™ became a learning game for building connected income streams using TikTok, technology, creativity, and what you already know.
One tentacle at a time.
You don't need to know everything. You don't need a fancy degree. You don't need to build an empire before breakfast.
You just need somewhere to start.
Learn the game. Make a move. Build something. Connect the next piece.
And have some damn fun while you're at it.
Because I believe the future of work should give people more options, not fewer.
More freedom. More creativity. More opportunities to participate.
Not another complicated system that makes people feel like they're already behind.
Then the Game Became Something Bigger.
The more I built, the more I noticed something.
People didn't just need information.
They needed community. Infrastructure. Opportunity. Encouragement. Other people who believed they were capable of something extraordinary.
And they needed space to contribute in their own ways.
Traditional workplaces often ask people to fit into boxes someone else designed.
But people aren't boxes.
They're artists. Strategists. Parents. Builders. Problem solvers. Dreamers. Professional figure-it-outers.
Sometimes all in the same person.
And I believe there's enormous value in bringing those different perspectives together.
Not making everybody think alike.
Making room for everybody to bring what they've got.
The Money Octopus gave people a place to start.
Blackburn HQ became the place where everything could connect.
We Play Business Differently.
Today, Blackburn HQ is home to Money Octopus™, Blackburn Studios, original products, education, creator collaborations, community, and commerce.
Different expressions of the same bigger idea.
We're building businesses that put people first, keep the planet in mind, and pursue profit with purpose.
We believe in collaboration over competition.
Technology that makes people more capable, not disposable.
Systems that simplify work instead of manufacturing more of it.
And sharing success with the people who help create it.
I don't believe business has to be cold to be successful. I don't believe professionalism requires pretending we're all the same. And I certainly don't believe the best ideas have already been invented.
I'm an artist.
My medium is business.
And Blackburn HQ is the work we're creating together.
I didn't know exactly what the future of work would look like when I started.
I just knew I wasn't willing to go backward.
So I started building forward.
And somewhere along the way, I found a whole bunch of people who wanted to build with me.
I'm so glad you're here.
Let's make something beautiful. 👑🐙
